FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Why 2000 Calories?
Pregnancy is a high-risk period wherein the development of the unborn child depends solely on the mother’s nutrition and overall health. On the other hand, if nutrients aren’t available in their required amounts, the baby will be forced to take from the mother’s stored nutrients, which will compromise the mother’s health. We want to make sure that both mama and baby get enough, which is why we’ve increased the caloric intake to 2000. This is especially important in the third trimester and during breastfeeding, when there’s an increased need for energy.
2. What’s the difference between Diet Diva and Diet Diva Mama?
Diet Diva is focused primarily on those who are looking to lose weight the healthy way. At 1200 calories, it is meant to jumpstart weight loss without compromising nutrition. On the other hand, Diet Diva Mama’s main goal is to support pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in these critical stages. Diet Diva Mama provides a higher caloric allowance with a focus on certain nutrients to make sure pregnancy comes to term successfully and that breastfeeding is immediate and continuous.
3. What food and nutrients are given focus for pregnancy?
Some of the nutrients essential for pregnanct include: omega-3, iron, B-vitamins, Calcium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D. These are readily available from everyday foods such as broccoli, green leafy vegetables, (especially the darker ones, legumes, sweet potato, fatty fish, eggs, lean meat, fruits and whole grains.
4. If I’m pregnant, do I still need to take supplements?
Taking supplements ensure that both mommy and baby get enough of all the important nutrients especially iron and B-vitamins. However, it is important to always consult with your doctor beforehand. Remember that too much can be harmful to your baby.
5. If I have gestational diabetes can I go on this program?
Yes! Diet Diva Mama is low-sugar and focuses on the good carbohydrates so that your sugar levels are in check. We avoid refined sugars especially in our snacks and we load up on fibre and healthy starches.
6. I’ve just given birth and want to lose weight, will this program help?
What we hope to have new mothers understand is that weight loss isn’t our main priority. It’s a natural occurrence or side effect once they start breastfeeding. We want to encourage breastfeeding, because we believe breast is best.
7. What are lactation treats?
Lactation treats are designed to help moms boost and maintain milk supply. They contain galactagogues, which are found in foods like brewer’s yeast, wheat germ, oats, and flax seed. However, this does not guarantee milk production, but should be used in conjunction with proper hydration and a healthy diet.
