The best way to prevent yourself from getting sick is to keep your immune system up and ready to fight pathogens. Here are some tips to boost your immunity:
1. Eat fermented foods – fermented foods like yogurt, kimchi, kefir and kombucha contain good bacteria that promotes the production of antibodies that help fight infection.
2. Eat more fruits and vegetables – they are rich in fiber and loaded with nutrients that help boost your body’s capability of fighting pathogens.
3. Get enough sleep – getting the recommended number of hours allows your body to restore and repair itself, keeping your immunity in top shape.
4. Exercise regularly – physical activity helps flush out bacteria in the body and reduces risk of getting illness.
5. Wash hands whenever you can – by observing proper hygiene, you have a better chance of fighting infection.
6. Avoid drinking alcohol – the presence of alcohol in the gut disrupts the barrier that keeps bacteria out. It also decreases the number of cells that help fight infection.
Maintaining a healthy and sustainable lifestyle is important to keeping our immune system in top shape. Follow these tips to prevent getting sick.
Do you have additional tips that you want to share with us? Let us know in the comments!
1. For the planet – animal agriculture contributes largely to greenhouse gas emissions, even more than all the exhaust from cars, trucks, planes etc. combined! When you go on a plant-based diet, you slash your carbon footprint by roughly 50%! Who knew that changing the way you eat could be the key to saving our planet?
2. Lose weight – since plant food is not as calorie-dense as animal meat, you can actually eat more without gaining weight! Plus, they’re naturally rich in fiber so you’ll always be regular.
3. Reduce risk of diseases – many studies show that going on a plant-based diet drastically reduces your risk of getting diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases and even cancer! For many, it can also be the key to reversing diseases that they already have.
4. Better sleep and mental clarity – since your body is getting more nutrient-dense and easily-digestible food, it won’t use up so much time focusing on digestion, leaving you with more energy to think clearly and move better. A steady supply of nutrients from whole foods can lower cortisol (a stress hormone) in the body, which in turn helps you relax more and get better quality sleep.
5. Natural glow – once you go plant-based, you’ll notice your hair is shinier, your nails are longer and skin is clearer. Plant foods naturally detoxify your body leaving you radiant and glowing.
Metal Rat season is upon us! And with the start of a new year often comes resolutions on wellness and self-care. Are you tracking to achieve your fitness goals this 2020? Whether you’re looking to eat clean, fit in more physical activity, or make big lifestyle changes, check out the 2020 health forecast for each of the 12 Chinese animal signs:
The Rat will have to be extra careful in 2020. We recommend building the habit of seeing a medical professional immediately after noticing symptoms because the quicker Rats receive the medical treatment they need, the quicker they will heal and bounce back. To stay healthy, Rats must eat more proteins and vegetables. They can boost their immune system by adding vitamins to their diet as well. As a general rule, the key to keeping health is through proper diet, exercise, and sleep.
Like the wild oxen that run freely in the fields, people born during the Year of the Ox are healthy and fit. Hospital visits are rare, but this sometimes leads to overconfidence. Neglect during youth will result in problems in the later years.
As workaholics, Oxen will sometimes go days with minimal food and rest, then binge on both. Irregular diets will lead to problems in the digestive system. To stay healthy in 2020 and beyond, Oxen must remember to take breaks from work, stretch, and relax.
Sleep and rest are also essential for keeping healthy. But Tigers often have stressful careers and may have anxiety. It’s common for them to suffer from insomnia. They will benefit from relaxed conversations with family and taking well-deserved breaks.
However, they have many impulsive eating habits, tending to eat too little or too much of certain food items. This can lead to some problems with their urinary system.
They don’t usually get sick, but when they do, it becomes very serious. This is because they are too busy with work to pay attention to their health. They might also think it’s no big deal and brush it off. Due to this, minor colds can turn into more serious illnesses. Common areas of concern are the circulatory, urinary and digestive systems.
For better health and well-being, Dragons must remember to keep calm and relaxed. They mustn’t overthink and obsess over small problems. Instead, Dragons should take some time out for themselves. Exercise and more exposure to nature will help with physical and emotional fatigue.
However, Snakes are extremely picky eaters. They will stuff themselves with their favorites and not even consider a balanced diet. This will inevitably lead to some health problems.
Snakes also keep their complaints inside. Their bottled-up emotions can cause stress and anxiety which impact the heart, blood vessels, and other organs. Female snakes in particular need to pay attention to their urinary system.
Overall, Horses are naturally healthy. They are always on-the-go, pushing their bodies’ limits with little to no rest. Pulling all-nighters is a habit characteristic of Horses and they continue working even during holidays. Horses must create and stick to a more manageable routine if they wish to maintain their health.
Mindset, however, is the biggest determining factor of goats’ health. Goats are preconditioned to exhibit anxiety and obsess over small problems; which can later manifest as physical illnesses. To counter this, goats must be intentional about lessening their worries. Relaxation, meditation, and deep, calming breaths can quickly reverse the onset of anxiety. Goats will also benefit from proper food preparation & regular exercise.
Monkeys don’t have much to worry about when it comes to health. Their active personality, however, makes them accident-prone and put them in situations where they can hurt themselves. It often takes their bodies a while to get accustomed to changing seasons as well. Colds and sore throats are common.
Monkeys should also take care of their mental health. They care too much about what others think and can easily become depressed. Alongside physical activity, connecting with friends and family will be very beneficial!
Roosters must not be careless. They aren’t the healthiest naturally and outside factors can affect their health greatly.
Being picky eaters is common among all zodiacs, but Roosters are especially so. They are even picky with the food they like to eat. Their diets are influenced by their mood too. Since they often have mood swings, this can lead to problems with their digestive system.
The best way for Roosters to maintain their health is to address unhealthy eating habits and avoid being oversensitive to emotional triggers.
Dogs are healthy overall, but their health often has drastic changes. Though they seem resilient, their illnesses can be more severe than what initial symptoms suggest. The smallest colds can put them in bed for days. Dogs must remain wary of influenza and other contagious diseases during warmer weather.
Dogs should pay attention to their digestive system during their youth. Their biggest enemy is their unhealthy diet. Once in the workforce, Dogs will constantly be busy. The stress will lead to headaches and migraines, and in extreme cases, hysteria.
To create a strong base, Dogs should begin the habit of exercising early on. Taking breaks as needed and trying out relaxing activities like yoga are recommended.
Pigs also lead very busy lives. Even if they don’t feel tired, they should still remember to take breaks. Changes in weather will affect Pigs’ health too – they are at greater risk for respiratory diseases. Unhealthy diets can lead to diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart problems.
Pigs are not the type to give in to difficulties. This is a positive trait in the workplace, but might take an emotional, mental, and physical toll. To stay in the pink of health, Pigs must learn to take small illnesses seriously and get regular checkups.

Gong Xi Fa Cai!
Hello everyone! I am Kakki and I have an autoimmune disorder called Hashimoto’s disease. I was diagnosed with this August 2019 when after about 2 years of discovering my hypothyroidism & PCOS, I was still plagued with fatigue, a weak immune system & continuous weight gain. Upon finding out that I have this condition, I went into a denial phase and ignored it, thinking “Okay, noted, but I am busy with my current show (Himala2019) until October so I’ll deal with this then.” Then I went on to travel to Japan, then Morocco, then back in Manila where I let myself go during the holiday season. But now it’s time to stop escaping and start healing. Completely. Holistically. From the inside-out.
“Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune disorder in which your immune system creates antibodies that damage your thyroid gland. Doctors don’t know what causes your immune system to attack your thyroid gland. Some scientists think a virus or bacterium might trigger the response, while others believe a genetic flaw may be involved. A combination of factors — including heredity, sex and age — may determine your likelihood of developing the disorder.” (Mayo Clinic)
I’ve just started researching & studying this disease & I’ve learned that:
✅Women are much more likely to get Hashimoto’s disease.
✅You’re at higher risk for Hashimoto’s disease if others in your family have thyroid or other autoimmune diseases (my aunt has Hashimoto’s).
I’ve decided to be open about my journey and that this 2020, I’d like to take full responsibility and action to becoming fit & healthy once again.
I also realized that perhaps, I am the best person to experience this now, because in the bigger scheme of things, this will help me and my business. I have Diet Diva to help me with my nutritional needs, and now I have a new view on how people struggle with weight gain & weight-loss, which can help us create new food plans in the future.
For now, thanks for reading through this! If you struggle with something similar, message me! Let’s all help each other be better versions of ourselves Happy New Year!
Touted as the most important meal of the day, deciding what to have for breakfast is more than just reaching for what’s available in your fridge. Tempting as it may to go with quick (and usually fried) breakfast fixes, being healthy and powering through your day means being intentional about your food intake each morning.
The pressure to eat with mindfulness is even greater for athletes, who rely on nutrition to stay healthy and physically resilient for strenuous activities. Many athletes find that fueling their bodies with the right food each morning helps them feel more energetic, giving them the mindspace to choose better-quality lunch and dinner options for the rest of the day.
Breakfast essentially kickstarts the body’s metabolism after waking up. When athletes skip breakfast, they are forcing their bodies to run on empty after fasting overnight. Balanced nutrition is key so athletes can sustain their energy through the day, while also reaching and maintaining their goal weight. Making the right breakfast choices also means having adequate nutrition for physical repair.
For high-energy demands characteristic of professional and competitive athletes, a healthy, wholesome breakfast needs to be SOP! Meals can be portion-controlled and focused on protein for muscle recovery, mixed in with complex carbohydrates and healthy fats for energy.
Nutritionists say a healthy breakfast is made up of lean proteins, fruits, whole grains, and some vegetables. Here are five healthy, athlete-approved breakfast choices for you to consider:
Thankfully, Diet Diva’s Lean Machine program takes out the guesswork of what to have for breakfast each day. Lean Machine is specially designed for individuals who expend large amounts of energy during exercise or competition, so our in-house nutritionists and food experts have done the needful in ensuring customers who subscribe to the program are fueled well and are able to recover properly.
All the best to all the athletes especially those representing our country at the 2019 SEA GAMES!

With all the buzz surrounding the keto diet, should you be jumping on the bandwagon?
Keto operates on a simple premise that eliminates one food group. It is a low- or no-carb diet and is high on protein and fat. Many studies now show that in the short-term and long-term there are many harmful effects especially when done incorrectly. These include increase cholesterol levels, higher risk for heart disease, hypoglycemia, gastrointestinal problems, kidney stones and a progressive reduction of bone mineral.
Here at Diet Diva, we continue to uphold the 3 principles of proper nutrition: balance, moderation and variety. Which is why we created GLOW which is our counterpart for the keto diet. It’s a sustainable program with a modified ratio of carbohydrates, protein and fat that helps kickstart your weight loss. It’s also gluten-free and filled with whole foods to help reduce inflammation.
We ensure you that with every meal, we provide you with food that nourishes and helps you achieve the results you want.
